My favorite program on television has got to be Ghost Whisperer. With a reasonably simplistic storyline, along with some brilliant casting, the producers of the show seem to have got just the perfect mix for a hit television show.

Started in September 2005, this show airs Friday nights on CBS. Over the course of these nearly four years, the show has been through five seasons. The primary character of the show is Melinda Gordon, a young woman who has the ability to see and communicate with the dead. Melinda’s part is played by Jennifer Love Hewitt, an American actress, voice actress, and singer-songwriter. Melinda’s husband, Jim Clancy, played by David Conrad, also has a major role to play in the show. The five season sees the demise of Jim, who is fatally shot, only to resurface as Sam Lucas; the body remains that of David Conrad, but the mind is now that of Sam Lucas.

The series is based on the work of “Spirit Communicator” James Van Praagh, who is also the co-executive producer of the show and constantly updates a blog about the show through CBS. Additionally, the stories are also said to be based in part on the work of “Spirit Communicator” Mary Ann Winkowski.

A lot of the Ghost Whisperer episodes tend to have a similar plot among themselves. Melinda comes across a ghost and tries to ascertain the reasons behind the ghost’s appearance. She also tries to contact the humans that the ghost is either haunting or trying to reach out to.

The simplistic plot notwithstanding, I am completely hooked on to the show, especially Season 4 onwards, when the producers brought about a HUGE twist in the tale, by killing Jim’s character. There were initial uproars in the media and the viewers alike about killing Jim on the show, but eventually all that seems to have only benefited the show, with viewership soaring significantly, post the development.

Alas! I don’t always manage to catch up on my favorite show live, for numerous unavoidable reasons. But thankfully, I have discovered this service that lets me download episodes, across various seasons, not just of Ghost Whisperers, but of many other television shows as well.
